Down to the wire

and I'm hanging by a thread.

I've had to go buy a new refrigerator this week. No biggie since the insurance will pay for that. Today however hasn't been so much fun.

The carpet people came to put in the new carpet and surprise, surprise, NOT, the contractor measured and of course he didn't measure it correctly. One man stayed and put down the padding and another went back to their store and ended up having to order more carpet which they won't be able to install until tomorrow morning.

The hot water heater. The plumber came in and he said it doesn't pass code anymore and there was a lot of rust (only 14 years old) and he would not warranty by hooking it up I needed a new one. $750 that's all. Yeah - pocket change.

I also ended up needing a new stove. The one I had sat in the house during all of the crap with plastic over it, not covered all that well and the burners were all rusted and something was missing and the gas company would not hook it up yesterday.

I just came back from Lowe's and bought a new stove which will be delivered tomorrow with the refrigerator. While I was there I checked on hot water heaters and they were about $75 less then the plumber. Thanks to my terrific BIL he call Lowe's back and ordered it and put it on his charge card for them to deliver it tomorrow. I'll be able to pay him back from the final payment from the insurance company because right now I'm about cashed out.

So, I'm suppose to move back in tomorrow, the carpet isn't it, the water is turned on at the street but not the house because there is a leak downstairs they have to repair, the gas isn't on, the two bedrooms and baths, mine and Mom's aren't cleaned and the carpet in them aren't cleaned yet and yeah - did I mentioned the movers are suppose to move everything back in tomorrow afternoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh - yeah - one more thing, per the phone company my service has been turned back on but when I plug in the phone no dial tone!! I called them yesterday and someone is suppose to be here today to check on that.

Yesterday I went for heart x-ray and stress test. Day before that I had an EKG and an ECHO --- hmm - wonder if I pass - so to speak. I feel like going postal and taking a long hike. I'm go tired, sick and tired. I know this all will come to pass but it's really getting old.

Well that's the update for now. I'll be back if I'm not in jail, the hospital or the the psycho ward.

Later, ME

Before & After

Before & after of the back of the house. Quite a difference you think?

The front porch was finished today. Yeah!! The electrical passed and the power will actually be turned on tomorrow. The carpet will be going down this coming week. I'm still waiting on the kitchen counter tops, the chair rails and crown moulding, the gutters and the two new windows for the front bedrooms. The windows came in last week but they were in ivory instead of white like the others. Go figure! Not sure if that was a line or the truth.

Mom has been over to the house for the last four days "helping" the contractor. He says she isn't in the way and it doesn't bother him and she has been so much happier with something to do. It's been good for her and for that I'm thankful.

November !!!

I can't believe it's November and the house is still not finished!!! Things are coming together though and hopefully we will be back home within two weeks.

I need to take some updated photos. The walls are painted, the kitchen cabinets are in - still waiting on the counter-tops to be installed. The kitchen floor is down. The front porch might be finished today.

Will update more later . . . .

October 6, 2006, I have WALLS!!!!

Finally the sheetrock is up. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The New Deck

The new deck is looking
really nice.
Even better now
with the new
siding up.

End of September. I took this one from the dining room area. The ceiling fan is in my scrap room. They had to take down the one wall, some of the floor and ceiling.

The insulation has been installed.

This is looking from the scrap room towards the living room and kitchen. The living room had a vaulted ceiling before and I'm keeping it that way. The dining room and kitchen were lower flat ceilings. I'm having them keep the dining room vaulted and the kitchen will be lower and flat.

Finally the rebuilding has begun. The two pictures on the left side were taken in the month of August. The picture below was taken once they started putting on the new vinyl siding which was the last week of September.

How do you like my new
"blue skylight"????
You have to laugh or you'll cry.

The first of the building supplies were delivered the end of June.

The demolition has begun

What a mess!!!

A couple of pics of the inside

A few more pics of "The Tree"

It only took about five hours
and six men - not counting the
crane operator.

Mom and part of "The Tree"

They had to bring a crane in to remove the tree from the house. After cutting all the limbs off of the top that were hanging over the front of the house, they cut the trunk into three different pieces and had the crane haul it out. Here is a picture of Mom beside one piece of it.

April 8, 2006 "The Tree"

At 4:00 a.m. the warning sirens started. Being the night-owl that I am on the weekends I was in my scraproom and wasn't quite sure what I was hearing. I went outside to the front porch and could hear the sirens but there was a storm, no hard wind nothing that would make you think anything was really going to happen.

Long story short - my sister next door came out and yelled for me to get Mom and get next door and we went to her garage to wait out whatever was maybe coming out way. It started to rain a little and you could hear the thunder in the distance but again, it really didn't seem like anything major was happening around us. Then for about 2-3 minutes a huge gust of wind felt like it was circling the house. Later around 7:00 I went back home to "The Tree"

A giant red oak behind the house came up by the roots and inbedded itself in the middle of my living room and across the whole top of the room over the dinning room area.
